There are seven parts of a long bone.
- Diaphysis
- Epiphysis
- Metaphyis
- Articular cartilage
- Periosteum
- Medullary cavity
- Endosteum

1) The Diaphysis is the cylindrical shaft of a long bone.

2) The Epiphysis is the distal and proximal ends of the bone, two per long bone.

3) The Metaphysis is the portion of the bone that connects the Diaphysis and the Epiphysis.

4) Articular cartilage forms a joint and reduces friction.

5) The Periosteum is dense connective tissue that makes bone forming cells. It assists in repairs, nourishes bone, and serves as attachment for ligaments and tendons.

6) The Medullary cavity is a marrow filled cavity that is the space within the Diaphysis. It contains fatty yellow marrow in adults (red marrow in children)

7) The Endosteum is a single layer of bone forming cells. It lines the medullary cavity
